Intensive
Dance Program
(Performing Arts Program)

The Intensive Dance Program is designed
for those students who have chosen dance as their number one extra curricular
activity, and it encourages them to pursue a more intensive dance training.
Students enrolled in the program are required to participate in exams, festivals
(2 in early spring) and recitals. They are also required to be serious about
their schoolwork, receiving above average grades. Combining regular school
and dance school will require careful planning of time. Parents will be required
to uphold school philosophy, and prepare students for festivals, performances
& exams.
This program encourages the
self-discipline & creativity that develops self-confidence in young dancers.
A professional syllabus is designed to allow for individual development within
the class, either in preparation for professional training and
Cecchetti ballet
exams, or for the pure enjoyment of dance. The Cecchetti Society has an
international reputation for dance excellence. The purpose of our exams is
to develop discipline, confidence in performance, and a personal sense of
achievement.
Students in this program must:
- demonstrate musicality &
dance expression
- maintain good attendance, manners &
display a positive attitude
- express a love of dance
- show respect for teachers /
choreographers / other students / parent volunteers
Body type is definitely not a factor in
the selection process. Students are recommended by the teaching staff
through Mrs. Klassen. Most often students are selected from the General
Program at age 7, where they would then enter level 1.
Children enrolled in grade 1 at school are
rarely chosen as they have a lot to deal with in this year. Parents of
recommended students or parents who would like to enquire as whether their child
is ready should make an appointment with Mrs. Klassen in order to pose any
questions or concerns.
All Classes Run from
September to June
