PBS Auxiliary

Parksville Ballet School is very fortunate to have an auxiliary.  The PBS Auxiliary is a non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to help support the school, the students and their families.  PBS Auxiliary has been a vital part of the ballet school for over 20 years, promoting and enhancing the continuing excellence of the Parksville Ballet School.

In the past, the PBS Auxiliary has provided bursaries for both festivals and to the International Tap Competition competitors.  They have purchased first aid items, costumes, a piano, video and audio items, master classes, portable barres and floors, bodysuits and national skirts.  More recently, the PBS Auxiliary has been able to pay for Festival fees and some Exam Fees.

The Auxiliary also supports both the Nanaimo and Courtenay festivals by donating bursaries and financial support is also given to those students who are chosen to represent the festival at the Provincial level.

The reason that the PBS Auxiliary can support so many things is because of its affiliation with the BC Gaming Commission.  The auxiliary presently has a Bingo license with Harbour City Bingo in Nanaimo.  In order to retain the Bingo license, the Auxiliary must fund raise half of all monies taken in.  We are required to send 2 people to Nanaimo for each Bingo (a total of 12 days a year).  In order for the Auxiliary to continue to hold this license and provide these savings for students we need volunteers!!!  Your help would be greatly appreciated.

The Auxiliary holds two major fund-raisers that have “payback” awards that go directly to the student.  These events are held as soon as the dance season starts in the fall and are finished by Christmas.

The auxiliary presently meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the ballet school.  The AGM is held around the end of September and as a parent or guardian of a dancer, you are automatically a member of the PBS Auxiliary.  Membership is required to maintain our non-profit and gaming affiliation and to continue to support the students as they have been accustomed.  Meetings are friendly and informative and volunteers can help you with any questions you have regarding the dance world.  Please start attending at your earliest convenience, volunteer for Bingo, become a phone parent or class liaison.  Everyone is welcome!
